Children’s Liturgy of the Word (C. L. O. W.)

Elementary School Children

While Mass is adult centered, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, brings the Scripture readings of today’s Mass to a child’s level of understanding.  CLOW is a wonderful experience for your child as it brings the parts of the Mass from the homily, prayers of the faithful, and creed, to them so they feel part of the joy of Mass at their level.  The children leave church with C.L.O.W. leaders before the 1st reading and return at the Offertory.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered at the 9:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. Masses.

EDGE:

6th through 8th Grade

LIVING ON THE EDGE:  IT IS THE TIME IN A PERSON’S LIFE WHERE YOU ARE LIVING ON THE EDGE OF BEING A KID AND BEING AN ADULT

The EDGE program is designed to meet the catechetical, educational, spiritual, emotional, and social needs of young adolescents.  EDGE youth are brought into a large-group environment for gathering activities, teachings and prayer.  This is followed by small groups sessions to break open the teachings and build solid, Christ-centered relationships.  This allows the youth to explore their Catholic faith and make it relevant to their everyday lives by enabling them to build safe relationships during some of the most formative years of their  lives.  We work to help the teens become creative and experiential in their approach to understanding the Catholic teachings and in forming their Catholic identity.

At Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish we gather together, welcoming the spirit, united in our diversity, committed to peace through justice, as witness to our faith.  We seek to be the family of God, by our active participation in stewardship through worship, education, service and social activities.  These are the goals that we adhere to in teaching our young teens.

EDGE is a non-traditional but exciting and informative way to communicate our faith to our children.  Through EDGE, they enhance their lives by participating in the Eucharist, enjoying new friends, putting on skits, finding charity through social justice projects, breaking open the word through the Catholic Youth Bible, and most importantly living out their faith.  EDGE meets on the same nights as Life Teen, so please see the calendar under the Life Teen heading.  Parents are more than welcome to attend an EDGE evening and become involved by being part of the EDGE core team.

Important date for EDGE:  Junior High Rally March 6,, 2010.  Thousands of middle school youth come together to give glory to God through song, music, liturgy and prayer.

Life Teen:

 9th through 12th Grade

Life Teen is a comprehensive youth ministry program with a strong focus on the Eucharist.  Starting with a Teen Mass (Every Sunday evening at 5:00 P.M. through May), high school teens are placed in an environment where they have the opportunity to enter into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ and His Church.  Immediately following Mass, the teens gather for a pizza dinner and at 6:30 P.M. gather together for “Life Night” to learn about the Church and their faith in challenging ways.  Some, for the first time, find themselves becoming part of a community where they feel loved and accepted.  Life Teen youth have the opportunity to engage in service projects, social outings, and classes that focus on life learning, and deep, thought provoking issues surrounding the life of the church.

Sacramental Preparation

Confirmation:

Confirmation is one of three Sacraments of Initiation into the Church, together with Baptism and Eucharist.  Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism by a special outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit:  Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord, which seals or confirms upon the baptized candidates a union with Christ and equips them for active participation in the worship and apostolic life of the Church.

Each candidate for the Sacrament of Confirmation (16 years old or older) is encouraged to know the Lord in a personal and intimate way, to experience a sense of belonging to the Christian community, and to respond to the Gospel mandate of Christian service, love, and joy.

Blessed Teresa’s candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation are:

REBEKAH RODRIGUEZ, PADDY AGATEP, ELISABETH NYBERG, JOSEPH LANDMANN, ANNA TAYLOR, CHRISTINA PITZ, ADRIANNE BRAUN, ALLSION THOMPSON, CHRISTINE NAFZIGER
